The Chevrolet SSR (Super Sport Roadster) is a retractable hardtop convertible pickup truck manufactured by Chevrolet between 2003 and 2006. The SSR was based on the Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT and therefore shared that SUV’s GMT360 platform. It features an LS2 V8 engine with Displacement on Demand technology, which conserves fuel by operating on only four cylinders when full power is not needed.
Body panels are made of composite materials to reduce weight and enable quick removal for repair or replacement. The SSR was introduced in October 2002 at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show. It went on sale in early 2003, with production beginning later that year.
